Overview
This is a Labor Service Position.
Brief Job Description (essential functions of the position):Operates standard tow trucks with a rated capacity of one ton or over and other departmental motor vehicles not requiring a special license.
Responsibilities
* Tows illegally parked motor vehicles from scene of violation to specified storage areas.
* Verifies and is responsible for towed vehicle condition reports; assists lot attendants in the storage and release of towed vehicles; performs manual labor in the maintenance of tow lot and removal of snow; makes minor vehicle repairs, changes tires, etc.
* Responds to two-way radio messages and maintains contact with dispatching personnel.
* Patrols an assigned area or route to spot motor vehicles eligible for impoundment; contacts central operations by two-way radio to verify same, fills out Traffic and Parking Seizure Notice and places Boot on vehicle when proper authorization is received; responsible for the repair and proper maintenance of the Boots.
* Reports all damaged traffic standards observed on route during assigned shift, i.e. sign posts, traffic lights, missing or loose signs, etc.
* Informs supervisors of any unusual actions taken or unusual occurrences, prepares and submits daily work operating reports, summaries or other necessary forms.
* Appears at court hearings as required.
* Performs related work as required.
Must be able to work any shifts required by the Commissioner or designee.
Minimum Entrance Qualifications
* Applicant must have at least one (1) year of experience.
* High School or equivalent education.
* Good knowledge of rules, regulations and code violations relative to the Booting and Towing Enforcement Division.
* Some knowledge of departmental policies and procedures.
* Working ability to operate tow trucks and other departmental vehicles not requiring a special license, to perform manual labor, to make minor repairs and maintain equipment in proper operational condition, to follow oral and written instructions, and to deal effectively with the general public.
* Applicant must be able to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job.
CERTIFICATE REQUIREMENT:
Current and Valid Massachusetts Class D Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Applicants must also provide a copy of their driving record to be considered.
