Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Lactation Consultant to provide expert guidance and support to breastfeeding mothers and their families. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in lactation practices, public health, and pediatrics, with the ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations. This role involves working closely with new parents to promote successful breastfeeding techniques, address challenges, and enhance overall maternal and infant health. RN with active IL license preferred.

Responsibilities

• Conduct one-on-one consultations with parents to assess breastfeeding needs and challenges.
• Provide education on breastfeeding techniques, positioning, and infant feeding cues.
• Develop individualized care plans based on the unique needs of each mother-infant pair.
• Collaborate with healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive support for breastfeeding families.
• Facilitate group workshops and presentations on breastfeeding topics for new parents.
• Maintain accurate records of consultations and follow-up care.
• Stay updated on current research and best practices in lactation consulting.
• Advocate for breastfeeding initiatives within the community and healthcare settings.

Skills

• Strong communication, critical thinking, and problem solving skills
• Highly organized and able to work independently
• Strong knowledge of human lactation, infant feeding, maternal-child health, and breastfeeding management
• Ability to assess patients independently, create plan of care, and follow up to effectively support any breastfeeding concerns

Job Type: Contract (1099)

Benefits:

• Flexible schedule
• $75-100/hour

Work Location:

• Must reside in commutable distance to Chicago and surrounding suburbs and be able to complete home visits in conjunction with virtual follow up. At this time we are not seeking candidates for virtual care only.
