Though we are still in the height of summer, things are underway for the most wonderful time of the year- Christmas at the Zoo! We have part-time openings for
Holiday Lighting Team Members. Holiday Lighting Team Members will be responsible for primarily hanging Christmas lights, repairing displays, and assisting with placement of displays for the Christmas at the Zoo event.
This position will work part-time (29 hours or less per week) from August through the beginning of January. There is potential to stay on after January as a part-time Housekeeping/ Grounds Services Team Member should the chosen candidates wish to do so. Shift schedules may vary. Candidates must have flexible availability to work weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.
Ideal candidates are committed to advancing the Zoo's mission to protect nature and inspire people to care for our world. Prior work experience is a plus! High school diploma or equivalent is preferred but not required. A cooperative and team-oriented personality is vital to this position along with the ability to work relatively independently with limited supervision. The pay rate for this exciting, entry-level position is $13.00/ hr.
Responsibilities and working conditions include but are not limited to: - Installs lighting for Christmas at the Zoo (CATZ).
- Assists with set up of Christmas Trees including hanging lights and other tree decorations.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Must have the ability to move and transport items up to 25 pounds occasionally and up to 10 pounds frequently.
- Frequent exposure to outdoor environmental conditions, which include inclement weather, cold and hot temperatures, and humidity.
- Required to dress according to weather conditions. Complies with Zoo dress code which includes proper shoe apparel; name tag at all times, khaki pants, shorts or skirts, and Zoo issued shirt, clean and tucked in.
- Ability to ascend/ descend ladders, steps, and uneven terrain, while maintaining body equilibrium to hang lights.
- Ability to detect, assess, identify, and observe surroundings to make sound judgments, along with the ability to communicate verbally, comprehend and decipher information accurately, using a two-way radio and telephone.
- Must wear personal protective equipment including latex or rubber gloves, dust masks, and goggles.
