Director of Parks & Recreation - town of Balcarres Director of Parks & Recreation - town of Balcarres *This is a temporary position to cover a maternity leave that will end between 12-18 months from the start date* Location: Town of Balcarres Employment Term: Temporary, Full Time – 35hrs/wk Wage: Starting at $22/hr – negotiable pending experience and qualifications Start Date: Immediate or as negotiated The Town of Balcarres invites applications for the position of Director of Parks and Recreation. The Director of Parks and Recreation plans, organizes and implements meaningful programs for residents. The position reports directly to the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) and provides support for the CAO, Foreman and Council. The Town offers a comprehensive benefits package including health, dental and vision and an employer matched pension plan. Duties include but are not limited to: Plan, organize and implement meaningful programs for residents and facility users Main contact and coordinator for all of the Town of Balcarres owned parks and recreation facilities Responsible for supervision of staff and contractors Advise Council of staff requirements through the operating budget and ensure that the positions are adequately advertised Prepares verbal and written reports as necessary for the CAO Assist community groups and organizations with the development and/or implementation of their programs including promotion Identify funding opportunities and apply for grants; collect information and submit reports as required Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including occasional evenings and weekends Other duties as assigned Experience and qualifications preferred: Post Secondary Diploma in Recreation, Leisure Studies, or equivalent is required Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills Friendly and courteous demeanor Keen attention to detail and ability to multitask and prioritize work Proficiency with computers including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) Problem solver able to work under deadlines Knowledge of municipal operations, experience in leadership roll and knowledge of MuniSoft are an asset Experience with budgeting, financial operations and general office management are an asset This posting will remain open until filled.
