A mission-driven nonprofit organization dedicated to expanding access to safe, stable housing is seeking an experienced Director of Housing Programs to lead and oversee supportive housing services in North Charleston, SC. This organization provides housing and stabilization services for individuals transitioning out of homelessness, including residents with military backgrounds, and is committed to delivering high-quality, trauma-informed support that promotes long-term independence.

Position Summary

The Director of Housing Programs oversees day-to-day program operations, supervises staff, ensures compliance with organizational and contractual requirements, and maintains productive partnerships with housing agencies and community service providers. This leader plays a key role in program development, quality assurance, and driving positive housing outcomes for residents.

Primary Responsibilities

Program Leadership & Team Management

  • Provide direct supervision to program staff, including case managers and support personnel.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, coaching, and routine case reviews.
  • Support staff in crisis management and complex resident situations.
  • Foster effective internal communication through team meetings, supervisory sessions, and program briefings.

Housing Program Operations

  • Oversee housing placement processes, program census, referral coordination, and service delivery.
  • Ensure program documentation, data entry, and reporting meet internal and external requirements.
  • Monitor housing stability indicators and support efforts to reduce returns to homelessness.
  • Maintain regular communication with contract partners, housing authorities, and service agencies.
  • Attend required meetings and complete all reporting tied to contracts or funding sources.

Community Engagement & Partnerships

  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with community organizations, property managers, and service networks.
  • Represent the housing program in multi-agency initiatives focused on housing stability and community support.
  • Advocate for residents by connecting them with appropriate external resources.

Policy Implementation & Organizational Coordination

  • Ensure staff adherence to organizational policies, program guidelines, and best practices.
  • Collaborate with leadership on program updates, staffing needs, and operational improvements.
  • Coordinate with internal departments, including property management, regarding facility operations and resident concerns.

Trauma-Informed & Supportive Practices

  • Promote a trauma-informed, resident-centered environment emphasizing safety, respect, and clear communication.
  • Implement structured team practices such as regular meetings, safety planning, and staff support strategies.
  • Model behavior that reinforces a positive, professional, and service-focused culture.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Participate in administrative meetings and follow up on assigned action items.
  • Engage in supervision with senior leadership.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in program supervision, social services administration, or supportive housing management.
  • Master’s degree in Social Work (LMSW/MSW) or a related human services field.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with experience supervising multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication abilities.
  • Excellent organizational, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience working with individuals exiting homelessness, including familiarity with city/state housing systems and service networks.
  • Proficiency with electronic case management or electronic health record systems (EHR experience preferred).
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, or equivalent platforms.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment background check required.

Working Conditions

  • Work is performed on-site at the North Charleston program location.
  • Schedule may require occasional adjustments based on program or resident needs.
