Behavioral Health/Psych RNs work with individuals and families who have psychiatric problems and disorders, such as depression, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, psychosis, dementia and more. According to the American Psychiatric Nurses Association, psych nurses are experts in crisis intervention, mental health, medications and therapies to assist patients in mastering mental illnesses. Tasks include assessing mental health needs, developing nursing care plans, managing a therapeutic environment, assisting with self-care activities, crisis intervention and counseling. Psych RNs usually work in patient facilities, health departments, mental health agencies, long term centers and correction facilities. Usually work directly with a person who has anxiety disorders, mood disorders, substance abuse, Alzheimer's disease.
Education/Requirements:
**Per Diem. AUTO OFFER. 1 yr exp; preferred Behavioral Htlh exp; Common Diagnosis/Treatment: Schizophrenia, depression, bipolar disorder, substance use disorder, anxiety; must be willing to work with both adult & pediatric care; pt ratio 1:8; 104 across five units (adult, child, geri).
